The Slipway Section extended under water maintenance support to vessels of sister
organisations, fishing industry and other classes of seagoing vessels besides
projects own vessels. During the period from 1967-68 to 1998-98, the section handled
744 nos. of vessels with an aggregate tonnage of 47707. Year wise break up of slipway
utilization is furnished in Annexure-VIII.
Projects ice plant produced 57294 tonnes of ice during 1969 1999. Depending on external demand, ice was also sold to external users (Annexure-IX).
Training activities of the division in refrigeration technology (10 months) and
workshop apprenticeship (6 months) used to be regularly extended. The total number of 425
candidates trained in these streams during 1970 to 1999 period is furnished in Annexure IV.
Consultancy in setting up of cold storage and freezing plants and other supporting
activities in fisheries is being extended by the Projects team of experts. Dredgers
when not engaged in maintenance of Projects waterfront are hired out for job work
earning revenue.
The Life Raft Servicing Station, which was established in 1985, was
transferred from the control of fisheries division to Marine Engineering Division during
---- after relocating it into a more spacious premise with new Marine Engineering complex.
The station has so far serviced 720 Life Rafts and 453 Hydrostatic Release
Units since inception. Year wise breakup of the programme is furnished in Annexure X.
